PRIVATE COOK/BUTLER REQUIRED IN SWITZERLAND
We have a fantastic opportunity for a qualified Cook with good front of house and concierge skills to support a private family in their home in Zurich, Switzerland. The client is looking to appoint a talented, experienced, and loyal Cook/Butler with a warm and friendly disposition to ensure the smooth running of their household. The ideal candidate will be hard-working, flexible, discreet and respectful, as well as being naturally service orientated.
Creating menus based on the family’s preferences and preparing healthy, high-quality meals on a daily basis, you will be responsible for food and beverage service within the home, as well as the purchasing of groceries and other household items. Highly organised, you will be in charge of all stock-taking and organisation of food and beverage items, as well as proper storage of perishable items such as meat, vegetables, fish, or fruits. Ensuring that proper hygiene is maintained at all times, you will also be responsible for cleaning all work surfaces and the kitchen area in general, as well as the proper disposal of unused food and ingredients.
Responsible, reliable and punctual, you will also have brilliant interpersonal skills as you will be required to liaise with the family, provisioners and other staff members on a daily basis. Organising and coordinating daily household tasks, you will work alongside other household staff and will be expected to contribute to the general operation of the household and help out with ad-hoc tasks such as errand running and driving, so having a team player mentality is essential for this role. There are dogs at the property, so the successful candidate must be pet friendly.
This is a live-out position for an EU resident living in or near Zurich and having your own reliable transport and a valid driving license are essential requirements for this role. Working Monday to Friday, between 6 to 8 hours per day, with some flexibility required, the role might also require a small percentage of travel within Europe, in which case accommodation will be provided. The family does not entertain often, so large-scale catering will not be necessary.
DUTIES TO INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
• Preparing menus and meals in accordance with principals’ tastes, taking into consideration special dietary requirements and requests/recipes
• Grocery shopping and maintaining accounts and budgets, building relationships with local suppliers
• Inventory management and organisation of a food storage spaces
• Food quality control; proper waste separation and disposing of prepared but unused food and ingredients
• Independent management and running of the kitchen including maintaining all equipment and appliances to a superior level of cleanliness and hygiene; reporting any malfunctioning kitchen appliances
• Cleaning all work surfaces and the kitchen area in general
• Working alongside other household staff to ensure the smooth running of the home
• Ad-hoc tasks such as driving, errand running, organising deliveries etc.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
• Vocational training as a Cook/Chef
• Prior experience working as a Cook/Chef, ideally within a private household
• Good front of house and concierge skills; high attention to detail
• German as first or second language & good English language skills preferred
• Exceptionally organised with the ability to plan ahead
• Proactive self-starter who can work autonomously, but with the ability to follow instructions when required
• Professional, approachable, friendly, respectful and discreet
• Calm and patient in nature; able to work under pressure in a professional manner
• Hard working, disciplined and punctual; able to offer flexibility
• Team player with brilliant interpersonal skills and a willingness to assist where required
• Valid driving license with own vehicle
• Reside within a commutable distance from Zurich & willingness to travel when needed
• The right to live and work in the EU
• Excellent checkable references
